Sitemaps What are they ? |

Site Maps have a purpose in life, just as any other of your web pages, a sitemap can show your visitors exactly what pages you have listed, as with many large websites, its simply not practical to have a huge navigation system on every page. |

A good example of a sitemap can be found here at places like google: http://www.google.com/sitemap.html
This is a good example as some websites have too many graphics, the cleaner, the better, simply because when a search engine spider visits your site and follows the link to your sitemap, its only interested in reading your text links, not your images. |

The best way to build your site map is to start with one of your current pages, delete as much of the images as possible, but keeping it within the look and feel of your site, then simply making a list of all the page titles within your site and adding a link to these pages, as with the google sitemap above.
Plain text links should be used for all the links, as some search engine spiders cant crawl JavaScript.
It is also good to add a little content at the top of the sitemap page as search engine spiders often ignore pages with just links.
Also, with the human visitor in mind, you could do well by organising your links into categories for ease of navigation.
