SEF is Search engine friendly, so will choosing the wrong domain damage your chance of a top search engine position ?
There is a lot of speculation surrounding this but we have tried to make some sense of this here for you, and hopefully, you will be in a better position to decide for yourself. |

If you already have a domain registered the same as your company name, (SmithandSons.com), fine, but if your looking for a new domain for your online shop, and say for example, you run a joinery business, you could register something like smithsjoinery.com.
Its always a bonus to select a domain name that reflects what you do, or sell, and what your web site is about. |

Having a number in your domain name can cause a variety of issues, say you have the number 5, when you tell someone your website address, you will have to explain everytime that its the figure 5, and not five.
For example, if you chose 21stbirthdays.com, would people type in twentyfirst or 21st without you having to tell them every time? |

Avoid using the hyphen in your domain name, or any other characters as they can, and do cause confusion.
If your domain name is say, smiths-joinery.com, and anyone asks, whats your domain, you would have to say smiths hyphen joinery dot com, otherwise, they are going to type in smithsjoinery.com and most probably end up on some other company website, and not yours. |
